The MEXT (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship is offered by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. It is one of the world's most comprehensive government scholarships, covering all expenses for international students to study at Japanese universities. Multiple categories exist including Research Students (Master's/PhD), Undergraduate, and Specialized Training. The Embassy-recommended pathway involves applying through your local Japanese Embassy.

  • Full tuition and enrollment fees waived, monthly stipend of approximately ¥143,000-¥145,000 (Master's/PhD), round-trip airfare (economy class), up to 1.5 years of Japanese language training before degree program starts, additional regional allowance for certain areas, no income tax on the stipend, access to Japanese university facilities and student services
